Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 81 year old mother has a tracheal intubation about three wks ago as her esophagus was completely blocked. Now her ankles are both swollen quite large, and she can't breathe when laying down in a prone position or slumped (rounded ) in her recliner. If sitting upright or in her stiff rocker, she has no problem breathing. She has never smoked. She is a stubborn mule, and has no family doctor for herself. She feels this will pass. About a week after the intubation, her eye has a blood vessel break and turn the white of her eye crimson. In about four to five days the eye absorbed the blood. Should I be concerned?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Sorry to hear of this , swelling in both limbs with difficult breathing while lying straight may indicate some heart problem ( heart failure ) ,excessive fluid in body for other reasons( there are many other reasons like low albumin , or kidney or liver failure ) may also do the same but these symptoms are not something to be ignored and I would advise you see a doctor earlier then latter , Hopes this clears your mind , I would be happy to answer if your have any thing else to ask in this regard
