What Does Systolic Velocity Of 172cm And Diastolic Level Of 55cm Say?

I took an ultrasound of the carotid arteries and on my right side it showed a stenosis of peak systolic velocity of 172cm and a end diastolic level of 55cm. Last year the readings were 169.9 and 49.8. Do I have a problem. My left carotid artery was PSV of 113cm and EDV of 23cm. Plaque morphology on all were Heterogenous, surface characteristics on all was smooth and flow characteristics laminar on all.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Madam
Thanks for writing to us.
An ultrasound / ECHO or peripheral doppler is best interpreted by the person who is performing it with full knowledge of clinical scenario.
Most of international centres take 125-230 cm/s peak systolic velocity as indicator of 50-70% stenosis. Diastolic velocity of more than 40cm/s is also considered to indicate >50% stenosis. Hence It is possible that you have a stenosis of >50% on right side. Since gray scale stenosis has not been mentioned, Exact degree is not known. Future management involves drug therapy and intervention. Need for intervention will be guided by symptoms. Your neurologist can guide you further on this issue.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
