What Does This CA Level Of 125 Indicate?

I am 31 years old and I have a left large septated ovarian cyst. It was an incidental finding when a doctor ordered a lumbar MRI for a back injury from a car accident. A couple months ago I had missed 2 periods and started having stomach pains that effected my appetite. Also started have issues with urge incontinence around the same time but I had a lot going on with my back pain I either ignored the symptoms or found other excuses for it. Since finding the cyst and seeing the obgyn they did an ultrasound which the doctor said at this point they can't rule out ovarian cancer. I do have a history with ovarian cysts but they never caused any problems and always resolved themselves until 2015. I had one removed from the left ovary that was 2 times the size of my uterus. My doctor has me scheduled for surgery in a week to have the cyst, left ovary and Fallopian tube removed. And I had a ca-125 test done and the nurse said the level was 9. I know 9 is a very low number which is good but my question is because my level is that low does that mean I have no chance of this being ovarian cancer? Thank you for your time!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

CA-125 is a tumor marker and elevated values are seen in ovarian cancer. In your case, the CA-125 value is normal and doesn't suggest the possibility of ovarian cancer. Less than 46 is considered as normal. You can closely follow up the lesion and as of now, no surgical intervention is required. You can follow up with a ultrasound scan every month. If the surgeon suspect any increase in size or features of malignancy, you can go for surgery.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
