Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A CT scan showed enlarged mediastinal and hilar lymphadenopathy. I had a CT scan of my neck for a sensation that something was in my throat for years. That was negative but incidently the lymphadenopathy was seen so a dedicated CT scan of the chest was done. No issues seen with the lungs. I am a very healthy 57 year old man. I feel absolutely fine. No weightloss, night sweats. What could cause this other that the scary things like cancer?
Dear patient Enlarged lymph nodes anywhere in body can be due to 1. Infection in the area drained by lymph nodes 2. Cancer in involved area 3. Blood disorders like leukemia. Similarly hilar and mediastinal lymph nodes are affected by same conditions of lung and heart . Since your ct scan is normal you need not to worry. But if throat pain is bothering you consider visiting ENT specialists for throat examination. If you are smoker a visit is must.
