I had an MRI of my brain last week to see if my metastic breast cancer had spread. Thankfully, it had not but I do not understand what the report means. My oncologist only mentioned that there was no cancer. Could you please put these medicaleese words into English please? “ Cortical involutional changes greater than expected for the patient’s age ( 62 & 1/2) with prominence of the cortical sulci. There is stable appearing moderate bihemispheric subcortical and periventricular white matter microvascular disease when compared with the Dec. 29, 2015 MRI examination. Stable microvascular disease is also present within the central pons.”
Microvascular disease means reduction in blood supply to small sized brain arteries which leads to shrinking of overall brain size and above mentioned changes in brain matter.
You should consult a neurologist to find out the cause behind it. It could be atherosclerotic, chemo-radiotherapy induced, diabetes, poor diet.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
