What Does This Abdominal MRI Test Result Indicate?
I am 69 year old female. I had an mre with contrast to look at my small bowels (crohns disease). My dr report included on some sequences the marrow signal of the right sacrum and adjacent iliac bone appears heterogeneous and heterogeneous marrow signal about the right sacroiliac joint . He recommended radiographs. Is this important? What does this mean? Thank you. Helen
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
The Marrow changes on MRI need to be further investigated considering your age of 69. Although the MRI was taken for bowels and abdomen it has well picked the pathology in the form of heterogenous marrow signals about right sacroiliac joint. and bone nearby. Surely, yes Radiographs and may be a CT scan along with an opinion of an Orthopedic Surgeon, blood tests for the CBC, ESR, thyroid and parathyroid functions should be done. This may most probably due to degenerative disorder of the sacroiliac joint. Proper further management then can be done. What about the abdominal symptoms that you have not mentioned for which an MRI of the abdomen was done?
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
