What Does This Brain And Spinal MRI Test Results Indicate?
MRI results with mild disc desiccation c5-6 and C6-7. It says annular bulge and bony encroachment on right side of right neural foramen at c5-6. I had Chiari decompression, craniectomy and duraplasty 2008 and took out bottom part skull and c1/2. Now have terrible headache and neck pain. Brain MRI shows mildly predominant cisterns magna, mild amount of T2 signal of periventricukat and corona radiate white matter , tiny pineal cyst but no other mass. Focus of low gradient echo signal along posterior fall to right of midline likely benign calcification. Left more than right ethmoid sinus mucosal disease without acute sinus mastoid effusion. Small cyst found on sphenoid sinus. What does all this really mean? Is it related to my Chiari?
These MRI findings are not related to the chiary surgery (besides predominant cisterna magna). The cervical spine changes are chronic changes which may explain the neck pain. The cysts are incidental findings, which are not related to the pain. I would just recommend follow up after 6 months with brain gadolinium enhanced MRI in order to monitor the pineal cyst for any possible progression. In my opinion the headache could be related to occipital neuralgia. But I would like to know more about your headache: - the location? - The duration? - Does coughing or physical exercise trigger the headache? - like pressure or throbbing type?
I remain at your disposal for any further questions. Best wishes, Dr. Aida
