What Does White Spots In Tonsils Suggest?

Hi there, since Christmas I have had 2 bouts of tonsilitis and 3 of pharingitis, having never had tonsilitis before in my life (34 yrs). From the last bout of pharingitis which was about 5 weeks ago, I still have white spots on my tonsillar arches. My doctor keeps prescribing Klacid for the pharingitis but it keeps returning. My doctor did a swap but it was clear. He mentioned the possibility of a nasal drip re-starting the infections. Do I need to go back to the doctors again about these white spots, even through my throat is not sore? Does it mean it has not fully cleared the infection? Thank you!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have a history of recurring throat infection causing Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis and white spots over tonsils that are pus pockets seems to be due to bacterial [streptococcal] infection..
As you do not have sore throat now it is due to the cause that your infection is resolving and the pus pockets can take a bit longer to resolve completely as compared to the active symptoms of throat infection..
I would suggest you that do not take antibiotics anymore and just do warm saline gargles, steam inhalations..
Chew Vitamin C pellets..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and take a soft diet..
Sip on warm water and maintain a good oral hygiene..
In case if the white spots does not resolve in another one week consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and check whether the white spots are pus pockets or tonsil stones that are calcified masses made from calcification of food debris and dirt that gets accumulated over the crypts of tonsils and can cause Recurring Cryptic Tonsillitis..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
