my 5yr old has had a viral infection. Onset about 3weeks ago. I took her back to the doctor last thrusday cause I noticed white spots on tonsils. He says it is still a viral infection her strep test and flu test came back neg. she has no fever, but her throat still hurts and she has more white spots on tonsils. they do not look like stones either more like marble. what could this be?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain the white spots on tonsils are most probably pus pockets if they are formed secondary to infection. Although the active symptoms of infection may subside in 3 to 4 days but the pus pockets and inflammation of tonsils and throat may take a bit longer say a week or more to completely resolve the signs of infection.. You can make him do warm saline gargles atleast 3 to 4 times a day and steam inhalations atleast once a day.. If there is pain Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be advised.. If still no relief consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and the physician can advise you him antibiotics like Amoxicillin or Azithromycin. Continuing warm saline gargles will also be advised..
Hope this information helps..
