What Does" Prominent Diffuse Bladder Wall Thickening On Post Void Film Measuring 4mm " Suggest?

My 12 year old son had an ultrasound recently. The report says 'prominent diffuse bladder wall thickening on post void film measuring 4mm. He does not have constant pain. No pain when urinating. 2x in the past 2 weeks he has been doubled over in pain but then is fine. The report also says, 'mild increased echogenicity of the kidneys suggestive of medical renal disease. We are headed to a children's hospital for more tests. What does this mean?

Hi..
From your description I think your son has got cystitis which means inflammation of the urinary bladder due to some infection. The same if persistent for a long time can lead to changes in the kidneys causing such picture. If your son's growth and weight is appropriate for his age, it means that it's not a prolonged problem affecting the kidneys. Anyway he needs a complete renal work up.Please make sure that his prepucial skin is not tight warranting circumcision as tight prepuce can predispose to frequent urinary infections.
