Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Food Diet Can I Give My Child Who Is Not Gaining Weight Easily?
I have delivered baby boy on 26 sep. His weight was low i.e 2.09 kg. Then on 3rd day he was admitted to NICU for dehydration for 6 days. At time of discharge his weight was 2.40 kg. But now his weight reduced to 1.90kg. Dr advice me to give him formula milk with my BM. Please advise me for his weight gain. Can I start balguti to him???
I would like to know few points in history. 1. What is current age of your baby? Was he a preterm baby? 2. Is the baby on exclusive breast milk? What is the frequency and volume of feed? 3. What are the bowel habits of your baby and how frequently you change wet diapers of your baby? 4. Is there any abnormal feature like fever, vomiting, lethargy, irritability, yellow discoloration, loose motion?
If your baby has no signs of illness then there could be feeding problem. Your baby should feed every 2 to 3 hourly about 1- 2 ounce milk. I would suggest avoid balguti rather you can use multivitamin drops after ensuring that feed is going well.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
