What Happens If Ethanol Is In Direct Contact With Eyes?
I got some gasoline (ethanol) splashed in my right eye about an hour ago. The white of the eye immediately turned red, but I flushed it with an eyewash solution from a first aid kit. Outside of a little mattering in that eye it seems fine. Is there anything else I need to do?
Hello It seems from the history that ethanol splashed into your eye an hour ago. The first thing to be done is to wash the eye thoroughly with normal water. Ethanol on direct contact with the eye can cause corneal epithelial defect. Hence this requires treatment by the use of antibiotic eye drops and artificial tears eye drops. If there is diminution of vision along with the redness and irritation of the eye it indicates corneal involvement and it requires treatment under supervision of your eye doctor.
Thank you
