What Happens When Laxatives Are Taken With Milk?

I recently took 5 Women's Laxative tablets with a glass of milk. Come to find out, it says on the back of the box to not drink milk within an hour of swallowing the laxatives... I am now experiencing mild/severe abdominal discomfort, along with nausea. What happens and what are the side effects when milk is taken with laxatives?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A laxative is a medication used to treat constipation.

Milk is a natural laxative.

When laxative is taken with milk, it increases the laxative effect.

So, there is a risk of having diarrhea.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
