What Hemoglobin Level Is Considered Normal For An 80-year-old Person?
Hi, what is a normal hemaglobin level for an eighty year old man. He just had a tavor procedure last week. His level went from eleven to nine.He has had bleeding textually. We saw the gastrointestinal Dr last Friday. Today we saw the heart Dr. She wants him to go to the hospital but he s refusing. Is this serious. Thank you
I totally understand your concerns about his health, the following points should be taken intop consideration: 1- A normal hemoglobin level for an adult man is above 13.5 g/dl , that also applies for an 80 year old man. 2- In the case of heart disease it is always recommended to have a hemoglobin level above 10 g/dl in order to have always enough amount of oxygen delivered to the heart. 3- The bleeding must be evaluated, a colonoscopy is important in his case to rule out any disease in the colon.
finally i advise the patient to go to the hospital because he has many problems that should be addressed by different Drs. He should not be in denial of the actual problem and you must help him take the right decision for his own benefit.
Best Regards
