What Impact Does Anti-freeze Spill Posses During Pregnancy?

Driving home earlier a bottle of anti-freeze spilled in my back seat without my knowing. I was in the car for about 45 minutes before i realized this. I am worried because I am pregnant and do not know if this will harm the baby. The only effect I feel from this is a scratchy throat. What should I do?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Cutaneous contact with ethylene glycol may cause poisoning in presence of skin lesions but this is extremely rare. There are no reported EG effects on the developing fetus but the harmful effects of acute poisoning of the mother could indirectly affect fetal health. A dying mother is a dying fetus. In your case, rest assure, nothing happened to your baby because nothing happened to you. Happy pregnancy!
