Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 6 year old daughters pediatrician is sending us to an endocrinologist for Clatorial Hypertrophy. When looking up research on this I am not finding to much to explain what it is or how serious it is. I would like to know what it means without all the medical terms getting in the way of understanding it.
Hi, Welcome to Hcm, Clitoris is a part of female genitals which is a regressed meaning shrunken form of male penis ( male sexual organ). Its normally seen as a small bud like thing in the upper part of female vagina. In some abnormal situation, it enlarges(hypertrophy) and looks very prominent then its called clitoral hypertrophy. Your doctor did right by asking for endocrine consult because there can be a lot of reasons for it and she needs a detail evaluation. Hope that clarifies your doubt as of now. Happy to help further. Take care.
