What Is Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy?

What is Fuchs Corneal Dystrophy? A lot of my female relatives on my moms side have it. Some have had corneal transplants. Would this be considered (for insurance purposes) eye surgery? Could it be put under another heading since I do not have eye insurance. Jaci

Hello
It seems from the history that you are having Fuchs corneal endothelial dystrophy. It is a type of corneal disorder in which the cornea becomes opaque and looses transparency because of the problem with the endothelial cells of the cornea.
The treatment in the initial stages is by use of hyperosmotic agents to decrease the corneal edema. In advanced stages keratoplasty is the treatment of choice.
Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for examination and treatment accordingly.

Thank you
