Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How high of a dosage can you be prescribed for Hydro-Morph Contin. I am presently taking 36 mg capsules twice a day, and not getting the pain relief I require for chronic back pain. Have had three surgeries and have been told I have to learn to live with it. Thanks GT
I would say 36 mg two times a day is already a very high dosage. Any increase in dose from here should be carefully evaluated and should only be introduced if there is evidence of benefit and risks are minimum. If we convert your current dose dose into morphine equivalent, then daily dosage is around 360-540 mg of morphine equivalent. Anything above 200mg of morphine equivalent has to be carefully administered though there is no defined upper limit. You can discuss alternative forms of pain relief like epidural blockade and others with your pain specialist apart from increasing the dose. Hope this information helps.
