My question is about moxifloxcin eye drops. I assume it contains an antibiotic. What antibiotic[s] is used and which kinds of bacteria does it destroy? If a patient is misdiagnosed and has a viral conjunctivitis, instead, are there downsides to using moxifloxacin?
Moxifloxacin is a 4th generation fluoroquinolone, mainly effective against bacterial infections. It may also be prescribed in cases of viral conjunctivitis to prevent secondary bacterial infections, which may occur in an eye which is in a compromised state. A standard course lasts for 1-2 weeks and will not cause any significant side effects.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic. If there is an indication of antibiotic counterculture it can be specifically used. Without culture and sensitivity, it is not possible to name bacteria. I will not be effective to treat conjunctivitis which is a self-limiting consult eye doctor and maybe some antiviral antibiotic can be used may apply refresh eye teardrop-and take vitamin c to augment immunity.
