What Is Trazodone Prescribed For?

Hello , I was wondering about what trazedone is for exactly. A friend of mine gave me one to help me sleep. But when looked it up it said for depression. I m not depressed I just want to sleep for eight hours in a row without waking up every hour. Thank you.

Trazadone is an antidepressant, but because of its sedative properties, it is often used as a sleep aid. It has many potential side effects, however, and shouldn't be used as such without a doctor prescribing it for you. Using your friend's medicine can be very dangerous. If you need help with insomnia, try some OTC herbals such as valerian root or melatonin. Benadryl is often used as an over the counter sleep aid. If that doesn't help, talk to your doctor about a prescription drug. If the trazodone helped, that is something you could ask your doctor about. There are a number of medicines that might reduce your insomnia. Hope this helps.
