I have taken my 3 Rd dose of nitrofurantoin monohyd macro 100 mg and also took a ranitidine hcl 150mg pills and am experiencing excruciating heartburn, gas and bloating. Is there anything I can take to help or is this serious enough to go to the ER?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history of taking third dose of Nitrofurantoin and Ranitidine, have developed excruciating heartburn, gas and bloating. Wants to know if something can be taken or this is serious enough to go to ER...
The development of heartburn, gas and bloating indicate that there may be a problem of gastroenteritis, Hence you are advised the following:
- Take an antacid every 3 hours.
- Cold milk or ice cream
- Take one more Ranitidine 150
- Watch for any nausea, vomiting, loose stool, foul smelling flatus.
If present then it is worth visiting ER for clinical evaluation, examination and further investigations to get a correct diagnosis and to get a proper treatment.
You may have to stop Nitrofurantoin and get started on another antibiotic.
