What Is Causing My Left Rib To Grow, Along With Persistent Pain, Dizziness, And Lack Of Findings From X-rays?

Hello, I have been dealing with a left rib issue for a few years now. My left rib is about 3 times the size of my right rib and seems to be growing. I used to have a lot of pain in the lower front of that rib and could not lay on my stomach or even hug people. I had a left intercostal nerve block and when that didn t work was given cortisone injections to the back of the rib under xray. Fast forward two years later, my rib continues to grow, I am having pain in the backside of the rib and stomach pain next the front - both pains are on the same plane (area bottom of rib cage same spot if you drew a line from front to back). I am also getting dizzy spells. I am waiting to get approval for an MRI and CAT scan because I have only had xrays which do not show anything wrong. Any ideas? I am kind of getting nervous about this - not worried about the abnormal looking rib as much as what is causing this and why it is growing without any answers from the doctors.

Hello,

Since you are experiencing persistent pain and dizziness, it could be due to nerve involvement or postural changes. A herniated disc in the mid-back could cause pain in the rib area, as well as pain in the chest or side. This may not show up clearly on X-rays but could be detected on MRI or CT.

Get clinically examined and get Ultrasound done to check for cysts or tumors. Your treating doctor will tell you to do blood tests to rule out inflammation or infection. Your treatment will depend on the pathology detected and diagnosis made.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
