What Is Causing Pain In Hip And Leg And Getting No Relief With Cortizone Shot?
Hi, arelative of mine, male, 81 yrs old has been having severe hip and leg pain for almost 6 months, they sent himo cortizone shots that helped for a few days but it came back. He has lost muscle and strength and he finally had a bone gammagram (which we ve never heard of befor) with contrast, the results came out with a dark or black spot on the hip bone, but about 40 days ago he had x rays done and it didnt show anything and the pain was there long befor the spo, what could it be? I am so sorry to hear about this pain. The causes of pain in the hip are multiple and needs a full evaluation to tell what the exact problem is. With the tests showing bone changes, the cause of this pain would probably be the bone. It could be necrosis, cancer deposits, infections, etc. Let him follow up with the doctor for further interpretation to pinpoint the cause and treat accordingly.
Xrays are not as sensitive as more detailed exams like bone gammagram. This is the reason why findings that were not evident on the xray could be visualized.
