What Is Causing Unusual Sound In The Left Ear While Using Headphones?

When listening to audio over my headphones what I hear in my left ear appears to sounds robotic and almost like the sound of people who are possessed in movies with the two toned voice, it is difficult to describe but when using the same earpiece in my other ear with the same section of audio the problem is not there, do you have any idea what this could be?
