What Is Cecal Bascule Obstruction?

Hi- could you please help me understand cecal bascule? My friend was just diagnosed it, and we re having trouble finding information about it. We learned what it is anatomically, but we don t understand how dangerous it could be or what the potential surgery might entail. Will she possibly need a cecostomy tube? Thank you so much for your help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.

This is not dangerous if it is treated on time when necrosis and perforation didnt occur yet. It is variation of cecal volvuls where caecum is roatte dand it compresses ascending colon. In some cases it may resolve on its own but usually surgery is required where cecum is derotated if possible, and if there are signs of necrosis, then resection of colon should be done, in most cases with primary anastomosis, not cecostomy tube.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
