Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I got married in april 2011. My last period was on sept 26th. till now i did not get period. I consulted gynecologist. Dr. Suggested to take meprate 10 mg for 5 days. so that i will get period. Also suggested to take modus 10mg per day till ten days form the 17th day of period. Please give me reasons why meprate and modus are used for.
Meperate 10 mg contains medroxyprogesterone which is similar to the progesterone hormone naturally produced by the body. Meperate regulates periods, stops irregular bleeding and helps with withdrawal bleeding in cases of amenorrhea. Progesterone, a female hormone that is important in the regulation of ovulation and menstruation. It is used to cause menstrual periods in women who haven't reached menopause but aren't having periods due to lack of a natural progesterone in the body. You should use the medicine as prescribed for it to be effective.
Modus 10 mg also contains medroxyprogesterone which is similar to Meperate 10 mg both in their ingredient and activities. Your doctor will decide on the dosage of the medication. So, you should take this medicine for as long as it is prescribed for you.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
