What Is Recommended Dosage Interval For Misoprostol Abortion Pills?

Hi ..
I'm currently going through a medical abortion I took the first pill in the doctors office yesterday and I have to take the next 4 between 24-48 hours afterwards. These 4 pills divide up 2 and 2 in my cheeks and have to dissolve in my mouth (called misoprostrol) and the abortion/miscarriage can start happening anywhere from 30 minutes after taking them... Which means heavy bleeding painful cramping ect.. Is it possible to take these pills before I go to sleep? And also before hand take melatonin to help me sleep through it ?

Hello dear
Understand your concern
I like your medical practice concern as you take advice of gynecologist for abortion. It should be taken for medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy of less than 9 week after USG scan.
By procedure you can as follow
Day 1: Mifepristone 600 mg orally
Day 3: 400 ug misoprostol orally/vaginally by gynecologist, another 400 ug orally/vaginally after 4 hour. Extra dose if requires should be taken every 4-6 hourly till the bleeding is not used up to maximum 5 dose.
Day 14: USG should be done to confirm incomplete abortion.
Bleeding and cramp will start with in 30-45 minutes and last for 2-3 days

Bleeding is just more than period with tissue and clots.
Pain is like just more than menstrual pain. All these are tolerable.
Proper rest and analgesic will decrease severity of both.
Avoid to take before sleep as you have to monitor bleeding as abortion process start or not. Take in the observation of gynecologist to prevent complication.
No need to melatonin to induce sleep.
Hope this may help you
Best regards
Dr. Sagar
