What Is Relationship Between Oral Melanotic Macules And HIV?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I have an oral melanotic macules. I have been told that it is nothing to worry about but people look at me in the street and assume that it is something to do with H.I.V. I have had two tests for H.I.V and they were both negative. Why would people assume this about me?

Hi,

Welcome to HCM.

Oral melanotic macules are non-cancerous (benign), dark spots found on the lips or inside the mouth.
These macules if changing colour, size and shape, then it is worrisome. If the macules are stable, there is no need to worry.
These macules are of cancerous type in HIV patients and recur even after excision.
Please do not worry unnecessarily about people's assumptions.
You can consult a cosmetologist and get it removed if it is bothering you much.
Thanks.
