Doctor I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and have been on thyronorm 50mg for three weeks. I have undergone a hysterectomy 6 months back and I am on premarin0.625mg for the last 20 days. Doctor how long does it take for my hypothyroid symptoms to stabilise?
hi i wud like to know cause of hypothyroidism and suggest you to do anti TPO antibody test.If it is positive it suggests you wud require life long thyroxine treatment.Once treatment is started you should do serum TSH levels after 6 weeks.Symptomatically you will feel better within 2 months but it may take around 4-5months to completly feel normal. You should monitor TSH levels every 6 monthly and dose of thyroxine to be adjusted to keep TSH levels in lower half of normal range.I want to add that tab thyroxine is to be taken on empty stomach in the morning and not to take anything for at least half an hour once you take thyroxine. I am assuring you that hypothyroidism is one of the easiest disease to treat .You just need to take thyroxine and disease easily comes in control. No need to adjust diet or lifestyle for hypothyroidism per se. i hope my answer has made the difference. thanks DR PRANAY BUDKULE
