Hello,
It is difficult to reverse
osteoporosis altogether but lifestyle changes do help to manage it. Medications are effective to slow down the bone breakdown, you have been prescribed Zolendronic acid to increase bone strength & reduce the chances of
fracture. You can take a limited amount to stay away from side effects, consult your treating doctor.
There are other medications (pills) that you can take orally
Alendronate (
Fosamax), Ibandronate (Boniva) that are equally effective but may cause hot flashes &
blood clots.
Menopausal women can have HRT, it is effective. Take calcium rich food & vitamin D, milk, cheese, yogurt, liver, saltwater food. Stop all addictions, avoid smoking, alcohol. Exercise regularly & avoid inactivity.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
