What Is The Cause And Treatment For Swelling And Redness On Lower Leg?

My 96 year old father has redness of lower leg, it is swollen and is taking antibiotics for an infection. However redness is creeping up to the knee, swelling not going down and it is uncomfortable. He is finding difficult to walk on. What is it and what is treatment?

It sounds like cellulitis. He should be looked at again. The antibiotics aren't helping so he needs another type. The bacteria causing the infection may not be sensitive to the ones he's taking now. The doctors can check and be sure he doesn't have an abscess that needs to be drained, or something else that needs a different treatment. If he's having any fevers or confusion, bring him to emergency. Hope this answers your query.
