What Is The Cause For Late Periods?

I am now 5 days late I did a pregnancy test last night in which I got a negative result. I am rarely late and usually have a regular cycle. I haven t had an appetite lately and have extremely sore and tender nipples. Could I still be pregnant. I should also mention i only have protected sex. Thanks

OB & GYN Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

There are many other causes of missed periods other then pregnancy like stress, thyroid, dietary change, exercise as you have written that you had protected intercourse. The chances of pregnancy are not there according to you, but in my opinion, you should repeat the pregnancy test or Beta HCG in blood.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
