What Is The Cause For Twitching On The Right Side Of My Upper Lip After Getting Hit On My Head ?

I was hit on both sides of my head with some object by hijackers. Xrays scans were done to my head and was told that no fractures on my head. However, they told me that my ear drum in the right ear was ruptured. I have started experiencing twitching on the right side of my upper lip. What do I need to do

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
1. Please accept my sympathies on your unfortunate injuries.

2. Most traumatic ruptures will heal in a few weeks. You should keep the ear dry and prevent infection (which may delay healing). Stay under regular follow up with your physicians. Remember to get a PTA (Pure Tone Audiogram) done to rule out any sensorineural hearing loss. Ear drops may be prescribed.

3. Twitching in your upper lip may be due to damage of part of the Facial Nerve either locally or as it passes through the ear. It may also be due to anxiety or post traumatic stress. You will have to bring this to the notice of your physicians. They may ask for NCS (Nerve Conduction Study) and EMG (ElectroMyoGraphy) or follow a wait and watch strategy. You may also be prescribed steroids if this is troublesome and does not subside.
