I have a lump on the outer side of my knee that comes and goes. It seems like it appears when I am on my feet for long periods of time or I do a lot of climbing. I did a lot of snow shoveling today and now its back and is somewhat painful. What could be the cause of this?

Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. S. Samanta's Response
Hi, If I were your treating Doctor for this case of a lateral-of-knee lump, I would come up with only one and one possibility that is varicose veins or bursa! Nothing to worry about this and try not to get infected there!
I suggest you to go for an FNAC test/USG dppler of the lump for confirmation and to relieve your concerns!
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
