Hello, and I hope I can help you today.
Normally, you should not bleed anymore at all after a
hysterectomy if it was a total hysterectomy, meaning that both your
uterus and
cervix were removed.
However, you had stitches at the top of your vagina which should have healed fully by now, but occasionally scar tissue or the remnants of a suture can cause bleeding with deep penetration. Or, if your ovaries were also removed, your
estrogen levels may have dropped and that may cause the skin deep in the vagina to get very dry which means it is easily scraped.
I suggest you see your surgeon back for an examination and he or she should be able to accurately diagnose what the problem is.
In the meantime, I would just use a lubricant when you have sex to reduce chafing and that may help the problem. There is nothing bad that will happen to you from attempting intercourse, so you do not need to be afraid of hurting yourself. I am sure your doctor will be able to tell you what may be wrong after looking inside your vagina.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today and that my advice was reassuring.
Best wishes, Dr. Brown
