What Is The Cause Of Firm Raised Spot On Thyroid?

Hi. I am a 53 year old female. I saw a PA-C yesterday for a sinus infection. He told me I had a firm raised spot on my left thyroid. I also have a red neck with white strip down the center. My voice has become more hoarse over the past two years, but I thought that was related to my age. I have had occassional strange pains in my left neck for many months. Of course, he suggested further investigation. Does this sound like cancer? Could it be benign and harmless?

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hi,

Good day. Please dont worry. Most of the thyroid lesions are benign . And another important thing is that most thyroid cancers are slow growing. At this tage, you will have to see an endocrinologist and get a thyroid function test done. An ultrasound also may be required after thyroid examination. BAsed on this we can decide if a needle test is required or not.
