What Is The Cause Of Pain In Hand When Bending And Swollen Thumb?

three days ago I noticed that it hurt grab things with my left hand. its really painful to bend it and i just ignored it and yesterday I went to cracked my knuckles and almost cried from the pain that came from my middle finger up through my wrist. my thumb is swollen and bruised and so is the back of my hand around my middle finger. i can type fine and make a fist but if i try and grab something i cant because of the pain. what could that be caused by?
