Hi, I have strong throbbing headache on the sides of my head, primarily the viens. The headache starts on the temples and extend on the lower side, the jaw etc. Also it occurs at odd hours and has no set pattern. The headaches have been occuring for more than an year. What can be the causes?
First of all, you should do some investigations such as: ESR and CBC to exclude a serious disease namely Giant Cell Arteritis. Then, if you smoke, eat fat rich diet or take a hormonal therapy, in a case you are a woman, such as oral contraceptive pills you have to stop and do some investigations such as: an CT BRAIN, lipid profile and measuring your blood pressure. If you are a woman you should ask a gynecologist for help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mustafa, Neurologist
