my 13 year old has 5 complex nodules on thyroid one on the right mid- right lobe , this one has been there for 5 years. this one has grown since, and now has 4 new ones on left upper and lower pole. my question is ! is this something that needs to be biopsied? today we did blood work to determine thyroid function. live in a small town not sure if i need to take her to a specialist
Hello, Welcome to HCM! I read carefully your concern and i will try to give you some more informations. First of all i would like to know if you have ever done a Fine Needle Biopsy aspiration to the nodule that was present from 5 years and is grown up in ultrasound? This nodule is a candidate for FNAB. About the other nodules that appeared lately you didn't prescribe enough information for them (the dimensions, the borders, vascularisation, ect.). If any of these nodules is >1 cm in diameter or has suspicious characteristics in ultrasound, will need also a FNAB. Thyrocalcitonine is a tumoral marker that may be done in this case. If i were your doctor i would strongly recommend these further examination. I wish my opinion will help you for further diagnose of your son. Best wishes, Dr.Guni
