What Is The Cure For Collapsed Lung And Fluid Inside Lungs?

Hi my name is Jackie and my husband Tony is in hospital with a collapsed lung and fluid in lung. He also has heart failure. He is on a machine to take away the fluid and inflate the lung. He has been on this for 5 days now and it is still taking fluid away. can you tell me what the prognosis would be and he is very down today - thinking that he may not ever get out of hospital. An operation is out of the question because of the heart failure. look forward to your reply.

The description you made is suggestive of heart failure. When pumping of heart fails fluid tends to collect in the body. And most commonly in feet, pleural cavity (surrounding lungs), abdomen etc. Once fluid start accumulating in chest it tend to collapse lung. So treatment of heart failure consist mainly on diuretics. Optimal diuretics with non invasive ventilation is treatment of choice.
