My partner (who is 53and of general good health) used a paint sprayer with an oil based fence stain yesterday in the garden for 2.5hours. By mid afternoon he was coughing and complaining of pains/tightness in his lungs and is still coughing this morning. What action do you advise?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

Accidental inhalation of paint vapours has resulted in inflammatory reaction in the nasal, throat and chest, thereby causing the symptoms.

Take inhaled steroids to reduce the inflammation of the respiratory tract. The symptoms will go away once the inflammation subsides.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Take care
