What Is The Difference Between Edarbi 80mg And Metoprolol 25 Mg?
I have high blood pressure and I have been on Edarbi. While in the hospital a few weeks ago, I was changed to Metoprolol because the hospital could not get the Edarbi. A few days after I was released from the hospital, my blood pressure stated to get real high even after the metoprolol as taken. I called my family Dr. And he said to take another dose. I am taking 25mg daily. Now the family Dr told me to go back to the edarbi since it worked for me. Now today after seeing the cardiologist, he put me back on the metoprolol. I am concerned that my blood pressure will skyrocket again. What is the difference between the Edarbi 80mg and the metoprolol 25 mg?
Welcome to HCM I understand your concern. Edarbi 80 mg is a blood pressure medication belonging to the Angiotensin Receptor Blocker ( ARB) group. Metoprolol belongs to the selective beta blocker group. Both would work for you at the correct doses. Metoprolol 25 mg is a small dose for high blood pressure. Also metoprolol has a half life less than 24 hours. I advise my patients to take metoprolol twice a day. Your blood pressure would have a smoother control on metoprolol at 25 mg twice a day. If you have more queries, I shall be happy to answer. Take Care Dr Noble Zachariah
