What Is The Difference Between Saaz DS And Saaz, And How Long Should I Take These Medicines For My Hip Arthritis?

Hi I am 49 years old and diagnosed with Hip Arthritis which is at it s initial stage. Inflammation and patchty marrow edema in greater trochanter including mild gluteal tendinous has also been reported in MRI. My Ortho has prescribed me Saaz DS and HCQS 200 and this I have been taking for last two months. According to him this will go on for long. I have two questions - 1. What s the difference between Saaz DS and Saaz 500? 2. How long these medicines need to be consumed?

Hello,

Saaz 500 is sulfasalazine, a medication prescribed to treat mild inflammatory conditions of RA. It is released as soon as it's absorbed in the stomach and small intestine. Saaz DS means double strength. It is prescribed when symptoms are moderate to severe. It is a delayed-release medication. When taken for a prolonged period, it causes side effects.

So if your doctor has prescribed you this medication for a longer period, you are advised to get done CBC (complete blood count), LFT , KFT every 3 months to rule out bone marrow suppression and toxicity. Do regular walking, do stretch exercises, and avoid sedentary lifestyle.

Include foods that have anti-inflammatory properties in your regular diet to help reduce pain and inflammation naturally. Take home-made nutritious food and avoid smoking; do not take alcohol; and stay away from addictions if any. Maintain a healthy weight and take quality sleep.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
