What Is The Dosage Of Amoxi-Clav Intake?

Hi, my daughter, who is 19, is on amox-clav for a throat infection. The instructions were twice a day. but she has taken them no more than 8 hours apart for two days now. This morning she feels terrible and has diarrhea. Was wondering if it should be taken 12 hours apart and what can we do about the ill feelings and diarrhea?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

She may be suffering from antibiotic-induced diarrhea: Amoxicillin-clavulanate dosage for adults, teenagers, and children weighing 40 kilograms (kg) or more—375 to 625 milligrams (mg) every eight hours, or 625 to 1000 mg every twelve hours.

The dose may vary according to the severity of the infection. So better to take twice a day for one week. Use probiotics like capsule Gut OK twice a day one hour before or after the antibiotic consumption. If symptoms not improved, please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
