My father-in-law has liver failure. He has been fairly stable for a number of months (on an extremely modified diet). Recently, he has had to take some strong pain medications for complications of cancer and now he has become jaundiced and is slurring is speech just a bit and is a little "foggy-headed." I know that these are signs of toxins in his blood that are not being filtered by his liver, indicative of the level of liver failure. My question is, what is the general life expectancy of an individual in his situation. He's 65, slightly over-weight, male breast cancer, diabetic, and now advanced liver failure. Are we talking weeks, months, up to a year or more?
