What Is The Hard Mass In The Front Of Neck?

I am 44 years old, 5ft8 inches, 75 kgs, and healthy. I noticed this strange, almost gristly feeling in my neck. When I feel it I can push this hardness from side to side around the front of my throat and it makes a kind of grinding noise against my throat. It's very hard to explain, is not painful. But I have never noticed it before... is it something I should be concerned about?
