What Is The Harm In Swallowing A Piece Of Toothpick?

A piece of toothpick might have been swallowed... it felt like it was in the back of the mouth but now after a day, it feels like it is getting lower and lower down my throat. Should I see a doctor? Hospital? Will there be any problems? Details: I was eating a wrap and took a big first bite and accidentally hit the toothpick that was stuck into it. The toothpick was snapped and a piece resulting from that may have been swallowed along with everything else. At first the pain would sometimes occur and sometimes not, but after 8 hours the pain seems to happen everytime I swallow something...and now it seems to be getting a little lower. The pain is located around the back of my tongue, near the left bottom side of my mouth. I thank all answers ahead of time.

helloo..read thru ur query...accordingly i feel that it wont be a problem as pain has reduced..drink lots of water and have some heavy food with fruits like orange banana apple(increse the bulk can take the toothpick if its still stuck there) it will go inside ..once it reaches ur stomach then it will be broken down by our stomach acids(it is said that our acids in our stomach are capable of breaking down even a solid block of iron).so i feel it might have gone inside and feeling in the tongue is the scratch or abrasion caused by the pick on its way down..wait for few days and if still it persists meet a otolaryngologist and get treatment done....nothing to be tensed in this case..hope ur benefitted something from this reply..have a healthy day!!
