Sunday, October 10 - my 77 year-old mother visited us and we noticed that she was turning yellow (skin and eyes). She said it had been that way a couple of days.
Monday, October 11 - my mother called and scheduled an appointment with her doctor.
Tuesday, October 12 - saw the doctor and had an ultrasound and a blockage in the biliary duct was found.
Friday, October 15 - met with a GI doctor.
Monday, October 18 - had a scope procedure through her mouth, took a biopsy, and placed a stent in a biliary duct.
Wednesday, October 20 - diagnosis of biliary duct cancer.
Friday, October 22 - had a CT scan.
Monday, October 25 - met with surgeon and had an MRI.
Tuesday, October 26 - surgeon called at night and stated that per MRI cancer is only in one side of biliary duct and he would perform surgery.
Wednesday, October 27 - called doctors office to schedule surgery...surgery still not scheduled but was informed the earliest would be November 10 (2 full weeks).
The stent is not working to drain the bile and my mother is extremely yellow and feels very weak and lethargic...says she has never felt this bad in her entire life. She was very active and is now getting very feeble.
My questions are: How long can she survive with severe jaundice? If they cannot operate for 2 weeks and she gets extremely bad, should we take her to the emergency room? Is there any dialysis-like treatment that can be done to clear up the jaundice?
