What Is The Life Expectancy Of Blood Cancer Patient With Pace Maker?
My grandmother has cancer cells in her bone marrow has not had a PET scan yet. She also has scerosis of the liver, recently had a pace maker put in, and her kidneys are functioning at 50%. She doesn t want chemo or radiation. She is 86 years old. What can we expect (quality and quanity of life)?
Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Quality of life would suffer due to increased urea and creatinine in blood, which will result in requirement for regular dialysis. Pace maker would work well, however, if it goes to cardiac failure, along with kidney problem, generalized edema will be seen. 2. Sclerosis of liver will complicate at later stages, possibly resulting in bleeding disorders. 3. Due to leukemia, possibly CLL at this stage, immune system will also be low. Without chemotherapy or radiation, one to two years will be difficult. Infection could be the common cause of death. Maintain a sterile environment surrounding her. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
