What Is The Life Expectancy With Laryngeal Cancer And Heart Disease?

My father, who is 77 was just diagnosed with cancer of the larynx. They were going to biopsy it, but wanted to do additional testing: pulmonary function and echocardiogram. He smoked a tobacco pipe for over 50 years and drank heavily. He has not drank in 20 years and has quit smoking for about a month. The CT scan showed a lesion on one side of his vocal cord that has narrowed his airway and crossed over to the other vocal cord. The ENT said she thinks its either stage 3 or 4 cancer. The cardiologist wants to do angioplasty tomorrow because the echo of his heart showed that he had a heart attack recently and has a "clot" on his heart. The ENT said 6 months without radiation, surgery etc. That was before his heart problems. My dad doesn't want to have radiationor surgery. He wants more quality vs quantity. At this point he is refusing to have the angioplasty. He is VERY tired and sleeps all day. What is his life expectancy with the combo of laryngeal cancer and heart disease with and without angioplasty? Also would the angioplasty improve his quality of life?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Angioplasty would definitely improve his quality of life.
2. It will also help him in fighting laryngeal cancer with radiotherapy and surgery. Biopsy will identify the type of tumor. Based on tumor histology, further management can be decided.
3. Life expectancy will improve drastically with angioplasty - if the cancer is curable, it could move to more than 5 years.
4. Without angioplasty, prognosis is poor, especially, with a clot already inside.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
